About Us
ABC Food Safety
ABC Food Safety has been trading since 2002 and is the leading provider of food law training to local authority food enforcement officers in the UK. In 2009 we launched our online training service to supplement our classroom courses and we now offer specialist food law compliance training to the food industry. We currently provide training to enforcement officers on import controls on behalf of the Food Standards Agency.
Andy Bowles · BSc (Hons), MSc
Andy is currently a Director of ABC Food Safety which provides specialist training and consultancy to local authorities and the food industry. He was formerly a lecturer in Environmental Health for the College of North East London, based at Middlesex University where he specialised in Food Hygiene and Food Standards Law at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. Prior to joining the College of North East London, Andy was Acting Head of Environmental Health at the London Borough of Enfield and gained industry experience as a Quality Assurance manager in the dairy industry.
He has acted as a consultant auditor of local authorities for the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and has written and delivered courses for the FSA on numerous topics including "Inland Enforcement of Imported Food Controls", "Food Labelling", "Approved establishments", "Dairy establishments", "Feed Hygiene" and "Food Interventions". Andy recently trained over 1000 enforcement officers in consistency as part of the FSA National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.
Andy has authored and maintains the importedfood.co.uk online training website on behalf of the Food Standards Agency and has trained Port Health Officers in import controls as well as running the Official Fish Inspector course.
Andy is qualified with a BSc (Hons) Environmental Health, BSc (Hons) Life Sciences, MSc Microbiology and is currently a pre-doctoral student at the University of Surrey, where he is completing his PhD on food enforcement law. He also holds post graduate diplomas in Accoustics and noise control and Health & Safety.He is the author of 'A Practical Guide to Criminal Investigations for Local Government Officers' (Chadwick House Press 2002) and the food law section of Croners Practical Food Hygiene.
Sharon Bowles · BSc (Hons), LLB (Hons), LLM, Solicitor
Sharon is Director and Company Secretary for ABC Food Safety and is also a solicitor holding a current practising certificate. She has several years experience in local government work. She gained her professional training with the London Borough of Enfield and following qualification worked as a solicitor specialising in contract and local government law at a central London law firm, where she acted for a number of local authority clients. In addition to her experience in private practice, she has been employed as a solicitor for a London local authority and has also worked as an in-house solicitor in industry.
Sharon has a first degree in Psychology and also a Masters Degree in Food Law.
